About David Lamm
David Lamm was a renowned sports radio broadcaster, writer and columnist. David played football in high school, but a major leg injury prevented him from participating. Due to his injuries, a local sports editor contacted David to track football numbers, and he did such an excellent job that they asked him to write pieces about local football games. He remained a sports editor for several years before becoming a sports radio presenter.

David attended UNC-Chapel Hill and N.C. Wesleyan College before obtaining the Wilson post. David and Ellen have been married for 52 years and have two sons and five grandchildren. He is a moderate conservative who enjoyed playing golf until two knee replacements, two neck surgery, and five back surgeries terminated his career in 2014. He enjoys traveling, reading, and watching movies. If you invite him for supper, shrimp, Eastern North Carolina barbecue, meatloaf, fried chicken, and fried okra will keep him coming back for more.
David Lamm’s Career and Legacy
David Lamm’s first byline came in his local newspaper, the Rocky Mount (North Carolina) Evening Telegram, in March 1961. More than 57 years later, David continues to provide commentary for Jacksonville’s sports talk station, 1010XL AM. David began his career as sports editor of the Wilson (N.C.) Daily Times (1966-68), then briefly worked in High Point, N.C., before spending ten years in Greensboro. In 1977, he relocated to Jacksonville and became the Florida Times-Union’s sports editor.
In 1983, he began working in radio and television. He hosted a 30-minute television show for 18 years, primarily on the Sun Network. He spent 30 years on morning radio, the last 20 as host of the “Lamm at Large” show (1991-2010). He went semi-retired in 2011 but still posts his daily rants.
