UPDATE: Mayor Anthony Vaz has verified that there is no truth to a claim that a shooting is taking place in Seaside Heights. It was during the twilight hours on several social media sites that the rumor started to spread. Although there was a loud bang that briefly produced a commotion, it was determined that no gunfire occurred. Police are still looking into the matter.
However, borough officials have stated that several events involving large groups of adolescents have prompted police to implement a curfew of 10 p.m. for anybody under the age of 18. According to authorities, there has been a lot of police activity and many complaints of group altercations. Special operations teams (SWAT) and other police agencies from nearby towns have been brought in to handle the situation.
SEASIDE HEIGHTS: There of possible shots fired at an unspecified location on the boardwalk. The police reported reporting large groups of people running. It said that the suspect may be hiding in Hemingways bathroom with a gun. The responding officials are searching to see if there were any victims. A caller reported seeing a man running with an item in his hand near Hemingways after hearing “shots.”
