Michael Wellek of Chicago, Illinois, has passed away; he was 76 years old. Michael was the owner of Heavenly Bodies Strip Clubs. Michael was caught in 2010 hiding $12 million and evading taxes at a warehouse in Elk Grove Village. He acknowledged not disclosing the $12 million he had hidden away in boxes and bags to the Internal Revenue Service. In front of a federal judge in Chicago, Michael Wellek entered a guilty plea to charges of impeding the IRS and failing to file a 2000 tax return.
He entered a guilty plea in 2010 to one count of submitting a false federal income tax return and one count of impeding the Internal Revenue Service in the collection of taxes. A few months later, he was sentenced to one year in jail and six months of home detention. In addition, he was mandated to do 200 hours of community service and pay a fine of $75,000.
The Heavenly Bodies Strip clubs are being purchased by Elk Grove Village, and it is anticipated that they will cease operations prior to the closing of the real estate deal next month. For months, Wellek had been in discussions with village authorities over the possible acquisition of a desirable corner lot in Elk Grove Township that was not yet incorporated. This week, the agreement was formally signed with a trust and management company headed by his wife.
