Larry Allen, the Dallas Cowboys’ Hall of Fame offensive tackle, died unexpectedly on Sunday while on vacation with his family in Mexico, the organization confirmed Monday. He was 52. His family and team members will be greatly missed. His cause of death has not been revealed as of the time of this publication.

“Larry, noted for his tremendous quickness and power, was one of the most respected and successful offensive linemen to ever play in the NFL. His adaptability and reliability were other defining characteristics of his career. He continued to inspire many other players by defining what it meant to be a great teammate, competitor, and winner,” the team stated in a statement.
“He was deeply loved and cared for by his wife, Janelle, whom he referred to as his heart and soul, his daughters Jayla and Lariana, and his son, Larry III. The Jones family and the Cowboys extend their deepest condolences, thoughts, and prayers to the Allen family and grieve along with the many other friends and Cowboys teammates that also loved Larry.”
His Legacy
Allen was drafted in the second round out of Sonoma State in 1994 and rapidly established himself as one of the NFL’s most formidable offensive linemen.
He was selected for the Pro Bowl 11 times and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2013. He played for the Cowboys from 1994 to 2005, winning the Super Bowl in 1995. He spent the last two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.
At the NFL scouting combine in February, Adofo-Mensah stated that a Jefferson deal had never entered his mind, even if it would allow him to move up for a quarterback in the draft.
“We think he’s the best wide receiver in the league and should be compensated as such,” Adofo-Mensah stated at the time. “We think he’s one of the best non-quarterbacks in the league and think he should be compensated as such.”
Jefferson has 392 catches for 5,899 yards and 30 touchdowns since the Vikings picked him as the 22nd overall choice in the 2020 NFL draft.
