It is requested that the public remember and pray for the entire Carroll family as they go through this sad and trying time of loss. Many have been quick to offer their sincere condolences to Frank Carroll’s family after word of his passing spread.
Carroll led his athletes to multiple national, international, and Olympic championships. The following people have studied under him: Michelle Kwan, Linda Fratianne, Christopher Bowman, Evan Lysacek, Denis Ten, Tiffany Chin, Mirai Nagasu, Gracie Gold, Tim Goebel, Karen Kwan, Joanna Ng, Beatrisa Liang, Jonathan Cassar, Robert Bradshaw, Yebin Mok, Angela Nikodinov, Jennifer Kirk, Danielle Kahle, Carolina Kostner, Silvia Fontana, Nicole Bobek, Daisuke Murakami, Carly Gold, Scott Dyer, Doug Mattis, Craig Heath, Jeri Campbell, Ellie Kawamura, Kristiene Gong, Luis Hernandez, and Tessa Hong are some of his students.
Frank Carroll is a representation of perseverance, self-control, diligence, and doing things the correct way. Frank Carroll never gave up, even in the face of Olympic defeats that crushed the teacher’s heart for Linda Fratianne and Michelle Kwan. The skating community went wild when student Evan Lysacek took home the gold at the 2010 Olympics—they were just as happy for Frank as they were for Evan.
Despite all of his well-known pupils’ successes, Frank said that his favorite coaching memory was of helping Robert Taylor—a big, gangly lad with little talent—win the novice men’s national title against all odds by sheer willpower and discipline.
Soon after, he mentored Tiffany Chin to victory in the world junior championships and, for the next eighteen years, he guided Christopher Bowman. Frank gained notoriety for revolutionizing the sport when he partnered with Michelle Kwan. Carroll and choreographer Lori Nichol collaborated early in Kwan’s career to elevate figure skating as an art form and turn the lengthy program into a choreographic masterpiece. At the height of figure skating’s popularity, Carroll, Kwan, and Nichol together redefined excellence and embodied the height of style, grace, and elegance.
