UPDATE: Tuesday morning, following a gunshot wound on the sidewalk outside a well-known South Philadelphia cafe, a guy was struggling for his life. According to Philadelphia police, the incident happened just after 8:30 a.m. on the sidewalk outside the Oregon Diner on the 300 block of Oregon Avenue, close to the Whitman Plaza retail mall. According to detectives, a male who looked to be in his 30s was shot in the buttocks, arm, and chest. He was driven to the hospital and was declared critically ill.
The gunshot is still being investigated, and police did not immediately announce any arrests or provide a reason for the incident. Outside the Oregon Diner, investigators marked off a section with tape. The gunfire was heard by the neighbors. The man who was shot is a regular customer who had breakfast inside the cafe before the shooting, according to restaurant staff.
