Jake Baker of Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania, has passed away unexpectedly on thursday, May 23, 2024. Slippery Rock University Athletics Department, and The Rock football team grieve the loss of football student-athlete Jake Baker. Who was Jaker Baker?
Jaker Baker was the son of James and Karen Baker. He was a Marketing major. Baker was a marketing student at Slippery Rock University and received PSAC Scholar-Athlete accolades. He was also a Dean’s List honoree at Clarion, where he started college in 2021.
Baker, a Thurmont, Maryland native, started his first season at Slippery Rock in the autumn of 2023 after moving from Towson. He participated in eight games as a defensive end, helping The Rock win the 2023 PSAC West title and advance to the NCAA Division II Quarterfinals. He appeared in eight games, he totaled four tackles and had a season-high two tackles at Mercyhurst. He also had one-tackle games against Clarion and Edinboro. In 2021, he played 10 games for Clarion, making 26 tackles, 2.0 TFL, and recovering one fumble. He was transferred to Towson and redshirted in 2022. A Dean’s List student.

He was a four-time letterwinner in football and wrestling at Catoctin High School in Thurmont, Maryland. As a senior, he led Catoctin to a state title and received all-state accolades. Selected to participate in the Baltimore Touchdown Club All-Star Game. Two-time All-Frederick County selection. An honor roll student who is a member of the National Arts Honor Society, the National Mathematics Honor Society, and the National Technical Honor Society.
