UPDATE: The two people shot at Mount Trashmore Park’s Summer Carnival on Saturday night have been named as a 15-year-old girl and a male aged 18. The Virginia Beach Police Department (VBPD) claimed in a release on Sunday that the fatal shooting resulted from a brawl inside the carnival earlier in the night, which off-duty Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office deputies had to break up. The altercation then escalated outside the carnival in the Edwin Drive parking lot approximately 8:30 p.m., according to VBPD.
According to VBPD, at least one individual was carrying a pistol and fired bullets, striking the 15-year-old girl and 18-year-old man. Both teens were rushed to the hospital for treatment, and according to VBPD, the girl, who has not been officially identified, died as a result of her injuries. The 18-year-old male is in critical condition.
“The recent increase in juvenile gun violence in the community is troubling and unacceptable. “It’s heartbreaking to see young lives lost and families torn apart by these senseless acts,” said Police Chief Paul Neudigate.Police are at the site. Saturday referred to the incident as a “chaotic scene.” VBPD said that there is presently no suspect information. Opening night of the Mount Trashmore Summer Carnival was set for Friday, June 19, to June 19. The carnival will resume on Sunday “with an increased presence” of law enforcement, including Virginia Beach police, Sheriff deputies, and private security, a representative for the City of Virginia Beach said.
A shooting has reported at Carnival of Jubilee in Mount Trashmore on Saturday, May 25. Authorities have been called to the scene. According to witness, a girl is laid out bleeding from her head. It was reported that two people had been shot. Responding authorities are yet to release a an official statement.
